Through its training program, the Marie-Vincent Foundation contributes to transferring knowledge and developing prevention and intervention best practices in regards to sexual violence against children and adolescents.

 

The training courses are intended for professionals working with children and adolescents.

    The Lantern program is a sexual violence prevention program for preschoolers and the adults in their lives. It was developed based on the needs of parents, educators, and caseworkers in the various early childhood settings such as drop-in centres and community organizations. The Lantern program provides training and tools to help prevent sexual violence through sex education and the promotion of egalitarian relationships. Of course, the program is tailored to the developmental level of young children.

    Module 1 :

    • Better understand the problem of sexual violence in early childhood, the importance of prevention through sex education and the promotion of egalitarian relationships among toddlers.
    • Become familiar with the tools of the Lantern program, and learn how and when to use them.
    • Reflect on your knowledge, practices, attitudes and beliefs in matters of sex education and the promotion of egalitarian relationships among young children; Identify daily opportunities for sex education and the promotion of egalitarian relationships among toddlers.
    • Marshall your teaching skills to prevent sexual violence against toddlers and the people in their lives.     

                    

    Module 2 :

    • Better understand the construction of gender inequalities and their impacts in early childhood settings and to deconstruct gender stereotypes.
    • Develop analytical and practical skills to deal with situations of sexual behaviour, both healthy and problematic.
    • Acquire the skills and knowledge to receive a sexual violence disclosure and report it to the Director of Youth Protection.
    • Identify concrete means to implement and maintain the achievements of the Lantern program in the given environment.
    • Commit to rallying the various adults in the lives of young children and getting them actively involved in the creation of a protective community.

    This training offers content and tools that will allow elementary school staff to improve their knowledge and skills when they face a student having sexualized behaviors or when a child discloses a situation of sexual violence. Although in most cases, the school’s professionals will provide follow-up, it is still essential to know how to welcome the child's disclosure and to support him adequately, then refer him, when the situation requires it.
