The Marie-Vincent Foundation is very proud to announce that Charles Emond, President and Chief Executive Officer of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), will lead its major fundraising campaign.

The needs are immense: In Quebec, one in five girls and one in ten boys report having been sexually abused before the age of 18. In addition, more than 50% of sexual assault victims are under the age of 18. The revelations and needs continue to grow. According to the Director of Youth Protection, reports were up 12%, or nearly 120,000 instances, in 2019–2020.

As a society, we must make children our number-one priority.

The Marie-Vincent Foundation is part of the solution, but its financial means are limited. The pandemic forced the organization to cancel the benefit events that help fund its services, so it has launched a two-phase, major fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $ 9.5 million over three years. The organization will be able to use the funds to improve access to its services, open a new child advocacy center outside Montreal, develop services for young victims of physical violence, and support sexual violence research.

In addition to supporting the Foundation in its fundraising efforts during the next year, Mr. Emond will couple his leadership with a donation of $ 150,000 over three years.

“I’m proud to be leading the Marie-Vincent Foundation’s major fundraising campaign. Nothing is more precious than the safety of our children—we must do everything we can to protect them and help them reach their full potential. Beyond feeling outraged every time we hear of another episode of sexual violence against children and adolescents, we must join forces to help them. Supporting an organization such as the Marie-Vincent Foundation, which works every day to stop this kind of violence and help young victims overcome such difficult experiences, is in line with the desire of CDPQ and its employees to help society’s most vulnerable.” Charles Emond, President and Chief Executive Officer, CDPQ

“The Board of Directors of the Marie-Vincent Foundation is extremely grateful that we can count on the support of CDPQ and Mr. Emond. His commitment to supporting children gives us confidence in a successful campaign, which will enable us to pursue our planned growth and help more children in Quebec.” Jessica Pathy, Chair of the Board of Directors, Marie-Vincent Foundation

“A great deal of funding is required to offer high-quality services that are rooted in best practices. Thanks to Mr. Emond’s support, we will be able to pursue our mission of developing services that are tailored to current realities, particularly sexual cyberviolence. Quebec’s vulnerable children and the Marie-Vincent Foundation just gained a valuable ally.” Stéphanie Gareau, Executive Director, Marie-Vincent Foundation
