Marie-Vincent in the Montérégie has marked another important milestone: on March 9, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Service de police de la Ville de Mercier. A similar agreement was signed on December 1 of last year with the Service de police de la Ville de Châteauguay.
These signings formalize essential partnerships in the Montérégie region and conclusively demonstrate the commitment and determination of all partners to build a community that protects our children. And thanks to this type of partnership, Marie-Vincent reinforces its mission to provide all services under one roof!
Several benefits
Signing a partnership with a police department has a beneficial effect on our organization’s mission. It allows us to:
- Highlight Marie-Vincent’s expertise with respect to sexual violence against young people
- Draw on the expertise of a police department in terms of criminal investigation
- Leverage the skills of a police department when filing elements to support charges with the DPCP (Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales)
Better case management
Additionally, the rooms for police investigations and the Marie-Vincent environment are settings that are better suited to disclosing traumatic events and providing testimony.
Should the abuse be confirmed during the interview, a psychosocial caseworker meets with the parents and presents the services offered at Marie-Vincent as well as all available resources to support them.
Together, we have the power to change things and to help a greater number of young victims of sexual violence!
