An education on healthy sexuality and equality
Thanks to the support of Avenir d’enfants, the Marie-Vincent Foundation has started a project to prevent sexual violence among children aged between 0 and 5 years old. The Lantern Project aims to raise awareness among communities about the importance of education concerning healthy sexuality and gender equality between girls and boys.
It is based on the importance of starting sexuality education early in the child’s life. It is by referring to the most promising preventive practices that educational materials and interventions adapted to their level of development will be developed to protect our children. This work will be done in collaboration with community partners.
With a goal to increase the protective factors of children, the project reaches out to the relatives and the players in the pre-school sector:
- Children aged 5 and under;
- Parents as key players in child development
- The extended family;
- Community workers;
- Child care workers and pre-school education networks;
- Workers in the health and social services network.
At the moment, the project is being deployed in communities of Montérégie, Montreal and the Atikamekw community.
