We are delighted to report that our very first sexual violence prevention conference was a resounding success! Over 110 dedicated professionals from the health and social services, education, early childhood and community sectors helped make this a wonderful event.
With the participation of some twenty speakers and 27 members of the Marie-Vincent team, there were 155 thoroughly invested individuals on hand. Attendees were given the opportunity to choose among six engaging workshops that explored, among other topics, preventive practices, sexuality education, sexual behaviours among children, sexual diversity and family diversity, interacting with parents in a multi-ethnic context and the impact of gender stereotypes on body image. They were also able to discover a dozen or so kiosks that showcased the best research and practices as well as many prevention tools.
The welcome address was made by Marie-Vincent Executive Director Stéphanie Gareau, who then welcomed Jessica Laurin, from the Public Health Agency of Canada, to the podium. They were followed by a presentation on the history of the Lantern Program by Jessica Martin and Joëlle Grenon, both project leaders and trainers at Marie-Vincent.
Our two guest speakers were Camil Bouchard, PhD, lead author of the “Un Québec fou de ses enfants” report, and Martine Hébert, co-chairholder of the Marie-Vincent Research Chair in Child Sexual Abuse.
Our heartfelt congratulations to all our team who expertly managed this memorable and important day for all stakeholders in the early childhood sector. You should be rightfully proud of what you have accomplished!
