The literature indicates that the vast majority of victims are girls \u2014 this is also the case for youth receiving services at Marie-Vincent. Based on data from our Research Chair, compiled from youth seen between 2017 and 2025 who participated in our Chair&#8217;s evaluation:<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-pre-wrap leading-[1.7]\">\u2013 Youth receiving services at Marie-Vincent know their perpetrator:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"[li_&amp;]:mb-0 [li_&amp;]:mt-1 [li_&amp;]:gap-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc flex flex-col gap-1 pl-8 mb-3\">\n<li class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\">For children aged 6 to 12, all were assaulted by someone known to them, of whom <strong>75% are members of the immediate or extended family.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\">For teens aged <strong>13 to 17<\/strong>, this figure stands at <strong>91%, of whom 54% are members of the immediate or extended family.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">\u2013 <strong>89% of youth followed at Marie-Vincent experienced severe to very severe assaults<\/strong>, including touching under clothing, attempted penetration, or penetration. These assaults can generate complex trauma requiring specialized services over an extended period.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\n\n\t\t<section class=\"text-standard section-block with-background cream-theme\" data-scroll-section>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"row row-main\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12 col-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"title title-2\">What is Sexual Violence?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sexual violence is a broad term that encompasses all forms of physical or psychological violence of a sexual nature, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation, online sexual violence, child luring, juvenile prostitution, pimping and female genital mutilation. Regardless of the form it takes, sexual violence has serious consequences for victims, their loved ones, and society as a whole. It can happen to children and teenagers from all social backgrounds and cultures.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\n\n\t\t<section class=\"text-standard section-block with-background beige-theme\" data-scroll-section>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"row row-main\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12 col-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"title title-2\">What is Sexual Assault?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sexual assault includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any act of a sexual nature, with or without physical contact.<\/li>\n<li>An act committed without the victim&#8217;s consent or through emotional manipulation or coercion.<\/li>\n<li>An act that subjects a person to another&#8217;s desires through an abuse of power, the use of force, coercion, or explicit or implicit threats.<\/li>\n<li>A violation of fundamental rights, including physical or psychological integrity and personal safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sexual assault can involve one or multiple sexual acts, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Touching<\/li>\n<li>Sexual kissing<\/li>\n<li>Masturbation<\/li>\n<li>Oral-genital contact<\/li>\n<li>Penetration or attempted penetration<\/li>\n<li>Other sexual activities<\/li>\n<li>Exhibitionist behaviour<\/li>\n<li>Voyeuristic behaviour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\n\n\t\t<section class=\"text-standard section-block with-background purple-theme\" data-scroll-section>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"row row-main\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12 col-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"title title-2\">What is Sexual Exploitation?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sexual exploitation includes various situations where an adult or older teenager takes advantage of a younger child or adolescent for sexual purposes in exchange for some form of gain, whether financial or otherwise.
